Trucker blocks a crash of two motorcycles with his rig and trailer... maybe saved a couple lives

A Los Angeles police officer was driving his motorcycle on the 5 Freeway in Sylma, southbound somewhere between Roxford and the 405 Freeway, when he collided with another motor bike on Tuesday, March 24th.

Truck driver Dorian Cole, 45, a driver for Pacific Tank Lines and witnessed the collision take place around 1:30 in the afternoon. “I saw a collision; I saw the guy flip over on a motorcycle and debris hit the freeway. I looked in my rear view mirror, I saw that the scene was clear. I hit my flashers to block the area where no cars or any other vehicle could hit the officer.”

By the American Trucking Associations’ count, annual driver turnover runs nearly 100% at so-called large truckload carriers, also known as long-haul truckers. And if it costs $3,000-to-$5,000 to recruit and hire one driver (I’m told that estimate is conservative), keeping the million or so long-haul driver jobs (1) filled every year represents a $3 billion-to-$5 billion toll on an industry that already suffers from narrow profit margins and an enormous need for capital.

Kenworth, Daimler, Volvo, Mack and Navistar, all announced their intent to not exhibit at the annual tradeshow. No word on Peterbilt, who is the brother company of Kenworth.

Daimler started a wave earlier this year by announcing it would only participate in odd-number years. In even-number years, it would focus on the enormous show in Hanover, Germany.

4 ton limit 136 year old bridge, was just asking for it, apparently

4-ton weight limit historic bridge in Greene County.

The tanker truck owned by Bucccaneer Enterprises of Buckhannon, W.Va., partially fell through the 136-year-old Pollocks Mills Bridge Sunday night.

Amazon is using third party trucking companies to supply trucks and drivers, but it's own trailers, to keep pace with its ever growing order volumes and give the company more control of its shipping network by shuttle goods between Amazon's warehouses, as well as move items to delivery stations and sorting facilities along the way to arriving at their final destinations.
